The O’Neill Foundation (ONF) is a prescribed private fund under Australian tax law. During its first 5 years it has provided financial support to more than 50 organisations engaged in a wide range of activities designed to assist the disadvantaged.
It has been a regular donor to many local charitable organisations such as:
- The Fred Hollows Foundation.
- The Royal Flying Doctor Service.
- Learning Links.
- Ian Thorpe's Fountain For Youth.
- The Northcott Society.
- St John Ambulance.
However, it has been through the assistance in crisis situations in countries such as Cambodia, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, Timor and Indonesia that the Foundation has been most effective. ONF has provided funds for projects such as:
- The building of medical clinics, schools and orphanages.
- Emergency medical aid.
- Corrective surgical procedures.
- Clean drinking water and sanitation programs.
- Agricultural initiatives.
- Basic Education and Special Skills training.
- Micro Credit Programs.
ONF has no religious or political affiliations.
Until the recent decision by the Board of Trustees to raise funds through the “O’Neill Foundation Cambodia Trust Account” virtually all granted funds were provided by the trustees personally.
